About Larry Magid

Larry Magid is founder of SafeKids.com and SafeTeens.com and co-founder and co-director of ConnectSafely.org.

He has been working in the field of online safety since 1994 when he wrote Child Safety on the Information Highway for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.  Larry served as Education Committee chair for the Obama Administration’s Online Safety Technology Working Group and as a member of the Internet Safety Technology Task Force which was established by 49 state attorneys general.  He is co-author of A Parents Guide to Facebook (2010) and MySpace Unraveled (with Anne Collier) and author of numerous books including Cruising Online: Larry Magid’s Guide to the Digital Highways (1994) and Electronic Links (1984).

A frequent media guest, Larry has addressed online safety issues on the Today Show, CBS Early Shows, BBC, NPR and numerous other outlets.  He is also a frequent speaker having given presentations at schools and universities throughout the United States as well as in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Larry is also a technology columnist and commentator.  He has written frequently for the New York Times and, for 18 years was a syndicated columnist for the Los Angeles Times.  He currently serves as on-air technology analyst for CBS News and writes regularly for the San Jose Mercury News, Palo Alto Daily News, Huffington Post and CNET News.  He also blogs at SafeKids.com and LarrysWorld.com.
